Setting up a new page

All new accounts must be approved by the Public Relations Department before going live.

When setting up a new Facebook presence, always create a page rather than a group. Pages are reserved for official entities (businesses, organizations, and departments), while groups are created to share common interests. You can create and manage a new page from your personal Facebook account.

To create a new page, click the arrow in the top left hand corner, and select “create page” from the dropdown menu. Then click on the “company, organization, or institution” icon.

When setting up your account, format your content as shown:

  • Category: University
  • Company name: University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) – The name of the college, institute or school (ex: University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) – College of Nursing). Note: There is a 75-character limit.
  • Website: Link to the specific college, institutes or school
    (ex: www.unmc.edu/nursing)
  • Unique Facebook web address: UNMC + abbreviation of college name
    (ex: UNMCCON)

It is important to designate at least two administrators who have access to the login, password, and page management/monitoring information.

Communication
When posting or replying to a post on Facebook be sure the language represents the UNMC brand. For guidance, reference the Tone guidelines within Brand Platform.

When setting up your account, format your content as shown:

  • Username: UNMC + abbreviation of college name
(ex: UNMCCON). Note: There is a 15-character limit.
  • Profile name: The name of the college, institute or school
    (ex: College of Nursing).
Note: There is a 20-character limit.

Setting up an account

All new accounts must be approved by the Public Relations Department before going live.

Follow these steps to create a new YouTube channel.

Please note: YouTube requires a Google account to set-up a YouTube account. Additionally, only one YouTube Channel is allowed per email, so it’s recommended to create a dedicated email account. Follow this naming structure when formatting the dedicated email address: unmc.collegename@gmail.com

When setting up your account, format your content as shown:

  • Username: UNMC + abbreviation of college name
    (ex: UNMCCON)
  • Channel name: University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) – The name of the college, institute or school (ex: University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) – College of Nursing)

Editing the channel name
The channel name will automatically be populated with the “username” you entered. By clicking the edit pencil to the right of the channel name, you are able to change it to the recommended format above – which is more descriptive and will yield better search results.

Editing the channel art and icon
To edit the channel art (the horizontal banner), click on the edit pencil icon at the top right of the banner graphic and click “edit channel art”. Upload the approved artwork provided. Repeat these steps to edit the icon image.

In the bottom left corner of the banner image, you can also add additional social media links to your page. Click the edit icon at the top right of the banner and choosing “edit links”. Click “add” to include additional overlays (social media links on image). To make more than one overlay visible on the banner image, you must increase the number from “1” to the amount of links you would like to display, and include the appropriate social media links.

Video elements
When developing new videos, always use the approved intro/outro bookends at the beginning and end of each video uploaded. When altering the content, use lower thirds for names, titles and other introductions. You can download video elements here.

Subgroups
A subgroup is a smaller, more focused group that operates within an existing LinkedIn parent group. Subgroups provide members with a space to discuss specific or niche topics that are more relevant to the smaller group of users. Developing groups for the UNMC Colleges, Institutes and Schools is great way to stay connected.

In an effort to promote unification across the UNMC brand we encourage you to create a Subgroup under the existing UNMC Linkedin account for your Colleges, Institutes and Schools. Being a subgroup, rather than a parent group, will allow the group be more visible and easily found when searched for.

Creating a subgroup
Only group owners or managers can create subgroups. If you would like to create a subgroup for your college, institute or school, send your request to Public Relations.

Initially, the manager of the parent group who creates the subgroup is the owner, however ownership can transfer to a manager at any time. If you would like to be the manager of a subgroup, include this in your request to Public Relations.

For general information on creating a subgroup, LinkedIn offers these steps.
